Annual Summer Lunch at St George’s
Our Annual Summer Lunch at St George’s, held on Saturday, was a truly wonderful occasion, and we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who came along and helped make it such an enjoyable and memorable afternoon. It was fantastic to see classmates, fellow Old Girls, and former staff coming together once again in such a warm and celebratory atmosphere.
The event brought together an impressive span of generations, with attendees representing the years 1950 through to 2016. It was particularly special to have such strong support from reunion groups, including 21 members of the Class of 1986 marking their 40th anniversary since leaving school, alongside 10 members of the Class of 1966. Seeing these milestones celebrated added a very meaningful dimension to the day.
We were delighted to welcome our guest speaker, Linda Ruxton, whose talk was nothing short of exceptional. Her reflections on her time as Sheriff and Procurator Fiscal were both fascinating and insightful. Delivered with warmth and wit, Linda’s stories captivated the room, with plenty of laughter throughout. Her engaging and down-to-earth style ensured that everyone was thoroughly entertained from start to finish.
A special moment in the afternoon was the celebration of Dr Andre de Ville’s retirement after 24 years of dedicated service to St George’s. During his time at the school, Andre held numerous key roles, including Head of Maths, Head of Educational Administration, and Exam Co-ordinator. He also served as Deputy Head (Curriculum) and Head of Faculty of Science, making a lasting impact across the school community. Lizzie Bruce, President of the OGA, delivered a fitting tribute and presented Andre with his gold badge in recognition of his remarkable contribution.
Guests also enjoyed tours of the school ahead of lunch, guided by our wonderful senior pupils, who no doubt gained some fascinating insights into school life in earlier decades from our returning OGs. It was a lovely opportunity to connect past and present in such a meaningful way.
A delicious lunch was served, thanks to James and his fantastic catering team, whose efforts were greatly appreciated. While the meal was thoroughly enjoyed, there was gentle disappointment at the absence of the ever-famous Swedish Apple Charlotte — a much-loved school pudding that many had hoped to see make a return!
