Speech Day 2020

This year, in a first for St George's, Speech Day was held virtually.

The St George's Pipers (April Hall, Lexie McDiarmid and Kathryn Shott - all Upper 6) opened procedings.

We heard from Mr Paul Brewer, Chair of Governors, who thanked the whole school community for the way they have come together and dealt with the crisis.

The address by Mrs Alex Hems is contained here (full text or video).

Georgia Bedlow spoke on behalf of the Upper 6, reflecting on their school career and of course recent events.  It would be easy to describe it as "bad luck, or disappointing" but perhaps worth considering that this group has "proved we can take whatever is thrown at us and cope with it.  Coronavirus may be keeping us apart just now but St George's will always keep us together".

Mrs Jill Bryce announced the Sixth Form Leavers, including two OGA 2020 prizewinners.  Congratulations to Zayna Hamid (Friendship Award) and April Hall (OGA Award).

Louise Gibson (Head of School) thanked the speakers, and also all parents and guardians - " no thank you can match the value of education".  She paid tribute to the teaching staff, who provided motivation and confidence, and "not only taught us about our subjects but also ourselves".

A key message was that St George's will be there for you, as you will be there for each other.
Congratulations to the Class of 2020 - we look forward to keeping in touch with you as part of the Alumnae Community.
