A Message to the Alumnae Community from St George’s Foundation

The Power of the Network
19 Mar 2020
School News
You will be aware of the most recent guidance from the UK government regarding closure of schools and would like to reassure you about St George’s approach.
We are not even speaking about closure at St George’s; instead, from next week, we will be moving into supported home learning mode – we will not be delivering face-to-face education but teaching and learning will continue.  As one of our girls so beautifully put it – ‘the school doors may be closed but the doors to learning remain open’.  We have very robust systems which will allow us to continue to offer a high quality of education to our students using digital resources and e-learning, and have committed to remaining in contact at a pastoral level as well as academic. Staff across the school have already been adapting classes, for instance the PE team have been highly creative in delivering an active programme amidst guidelines on ‘social distancing’. We also have plans in hand to be able to offer support for families of critical employees of the NHS, to enable them to continue with their crucial work at this time.
While we all adapt to different ways of working, it’s an appropriate time to reflect on the power of the community.  We’ve heard stories of communities looking out for vulnerable neighbours, retailers offering discounts to NHS staff, people offering volunteering hours to charities impacted by staff absences, and many more examples.
As we are facing a possibly extended period of limited social contact, please remember the Foundation Network’s channels as another means of keeping in touch with friends and colleagues:
  • Check in with friends to find out how they are adapting their work practices
  • Start a discussion on coping strategies
  • Offer any help within the community
The Foundation Office is operating on a ‘business as usual’ basis – please keep in touch with us too.  We’d love to share your stories of how you’re adapting.
With best wishes,

The Foundation Office
