Seonaid Dixon (Macdonald)
- Years at St George's - 1967 -1978
- What subjects did you study and which ones did you enjoy the most? - English, Maths, Chemistry, Geography, Biology, French, English & Biology
- Was there a particular teacher, mentor, or classmate who encouraged you to recognise your ambition or helped guide you towards your career path? - Last year of Junior school with Miss Fraser - She was a fabulous teacher who had the ability to guide, teach, mentor and built confidence in the children she taught.
- When you look back, in what ways did St George's influence your personal and professional developement? 1. It was the expectation there was something bigger in the world and that somehow even from an early age you were integral to it. 2. We were surrounded by knowledge which you took for granted - there was a library filled with books to consume. 3. We had sport every day, rain, hail or shine we played. Whether you enjoy sport or not it definitely improved our social skills taught us life skills like teamwork and in bad weather resilience! 4. I was a child who was constantly injured and missed many a country dancing party. Mrs Lindsay used to sit with me and tell me stories of resilience - one such party she sat with me and told me the story of Robert the Bruce and the Spider and how it taught him to try, try and try again - When I write this today and see it in black and white I realise this little story has perhaps been my guiding light when times have been tricky and helped me carve my career.
- .What did you pursue after leaving school? How did those choices influence your career path? - I became an Emergency staff nurse - Possibly as I had spent a fair amount of time in hospital and this seemed a natural path. In hindsight perhaps Medicine was the path I should have chosen. To date I have no idea why I didn't. Since then I have had an eclectic path from Nursing to Retail Management, Media Marketing, establishing an Overseas Development Agency, setting up and running an organic farm with retail outlets, working with safari lodges and today owning and running an Inn.
- Could you describe your present position and the key duties you are responsible for? - I own and run The Print House, a contemporary British Inn situated in an ancient setting - a place to eat, drink and sleep. This is set in the heart of the Kent, amongst the Vineyards. We serve locally sourced and seasonal fresh food in an informal, warm and welcoming setting.
- Outside of work, what brightens your day or brings you joy? - Travel, Walking, Open Water Swimming, Golf when time
