Alumna Rachel Steedman Shares Her Powerlifting Passion with Current Students

NHS doctor and powerlifting champ Rachel Steedman (Class of 2013) inspires St George's students with her unique journey.

St George's School welcomed back Rachel Steedman, class of 2013, for an inspiring full-day visit. Rachel's return showcased the valuable connections our alumnae maintain with the school and provided current students with insights into diverse career paths and passions.

Since leaving St G's, Rachel has carved out a unique path. Now in her fourth year of training to become an orthopaedic surgeon, she balances her demanding medical career with her passion for powerlifting. Rachel's athletic achievements are impressive, as she competes as a GB powerlifter and has participated in international competitions.

Rachel's visit was packed with engaging activities. She conducted a session with our future medics, sharing her experiences into the medical profession. Additionally, she led three sessions in the gym with our 1st XI and Lower PE classes, demonstrating her powerlifting techniques and discussing the importance of physical fitness.

Throughout her interactions, Rachel emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. She discussed how she manages her medical training, powerlifting pursuits, and personal life, highlighting the physical and mental health benefits of her chosen sport, including stress reduction and improved self-esteem.

By sharing her experiences, Rachel provided our students with an example of the diverse opportunities that await them after St George's. Her visit demonstrates the value of our alumnae network in creating meaningful connections between past and present students and inspiring the next generation to pursue their passions.

We are grateful to Rachel for dedicating her time to share her journey with our community. Her visit has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on our students, particularly those interested in medicine and sports.

We look forward to welcoming more alumnae to share their journeys with our community in the future!
