Lucinda Russell (Class of 1984) was passionate about riding during her years at St George's (1971–1983), where she studied Biology, Geography, Chemistry, English, and Maths. After earning a Psychology degree from St Andrews University, she convinced her parents to let her take a year off to ride eventers before finding a "proper job." That detour became her career path.
Since 1995, Lucinda has been a highly successful racehorse trainer and stables owner. Based in Kinross with her partner Peter Scudamore MBE, she has trained over 700 winners, including nine graded winners and victors at Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals. Highlights include the 2017 Aintree Grand National win with One For Arthur, for which she meticulously planned his route three years prior.
In 2018, Lucinda was awarded an OBE for services to horseracing, a proud moment for Scottish racing. She continues to break records, including most jump winners in a Scottish season (71 in 2022/23). Her unwavering passion for riding from St George's days has propelled her to become one of the most accomplished trainers in British jump racing.
