Alison Girdwood's educational journey began at St George's from 1971-1978, where she was a boarder. She studied subjects like English, Biology, and Art, gaining a well-rounded foundation. After Edinburgh University and a Master's in African Studies, she earned a PhD in Higher Education Policy Reform from the University of Bath.
Her impactful career spanned roles at publishing companies, universities like Edinburgh and Bath, the Commonwealth Secretariat as an education specialist, and DFID in areas like evaluation and education advising. Notable achievements include chairing an NGO for South African scholarships and organizing a Commonwealth education ministers' conference.
Currently the Director of Evaluation and Learning at the British Council, Alison credits St George's for instilling independence, confidence, and an ethos that guided her career in international education access and quality.
